The budget chaos is exacerbated by the many adds to the annual budget before the cuts. They are huge:
• Add $150 billion for Defense
• Add $60 billion for Immigration Hardball
• Add $50 billion for a farmer bailout.
• Add $10 billion tax cut of tips and overtime
• Add $450 billion for the end of the TCJA
They begin by adding $720 billion in deficit spending to the $6.9 trillion annual outlay. We currently run a $1.8 trillion deficit annually. Over 10 years that would be $25 trillion added to current $33 trillion deficit. Think $58 trillion vs $33 trillion. Before any cuts, the deficit will be $58 trillion. So they must come up with new budget cuts. They said like about an annual $1.5 trillion ($10.5 trillion over 10 years). It is crazy to increase the deficit by 50% and then ask for a tax cut that then has to be added to that deficit. Sure. I get it. Same as the 2017 TCJA: a 100% deficit-funded tax cut. The wealthy get a tax break benefit that your children and grandchildren must pay back. Trump does not care from where the money going Into his pocket comes, and he does not pay his bills. You get to pay it. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/hornswaggling-over-100-days?r=3m1bs
Millions of American Workers are classified as independent contractors delivering restaurant food and many other jobs. No holidays no sick days no vacation days. And you can make less than Minimum Wage.
For 20 years I delivered food....the Last 12 mislabeled independent contractor even though it was demanded that I work 6 days a week ...4 11 hours days split shifts....2 7 or 8 hours days.
And people treat you like you're lazy because you're poor even though you work more hours than they do.
I believe sick days.....and vacation days too .....should be decoupled from source of employment.....and one size fits all $50 a day or $100 a day or $200 per day. I have studied government employees wages and Benefits and its not fair that city governments or county government or school district employees who essentially get paid $1000 a day or more get that about that much every day they don't go to work.
By the way I worked all thru covid and was told by Iowa unemployment that because I was labeled Self Employment I didn't qualify for the federal covid unemployment benefits....
I know we have briefly messaged about this before, but your other readers may want to know about Paid Leave Oregon. In Oregon we have made a fantastic program. Yes there were hiccups in some of the right sizing of support and processing, but overall the program is a resounding success for those that have used it. Just people I know were able to take paid leave to bond with a child, a healthcare provider that has lung damage from COVID hospice work was able to keep her housing and keep working, etc. These are just the few people I know directly. The Freedom Foundation in Oregon is constantly slandering it, but workers love the ability to have this support when they need it. https://paidleave.oregon.gov/ . Oregon also is moving ahead on Universal Healthcare after the Measure 111 state Constitutional Amendment passed.
Great analysis, and thanks for saying the quiet part out loud. The less quiet, the more possible. So many solutions don't happen because there is a 'feeling' that they will be problematic, instead of looking at the empirical evidence from where they are working.
IMHO, expanding SS , adding supplements retirement, full free health care, child care, education for children through college or tech, would help break down the class divide and end the negative associations with blue collar work. Make work respectable again.

Thank you! We have a lot of opportunity in our economy waiting to be taken.

All great ideas, one step at a time!
I learn from your clear presentations of data, and I'm inspired by your optimism!
Love that! Optimism is key.
Your commentary is outstanding, but I'm slowly starting to really enjoy the spin towards optimism at the end.
Excellent! I think the optimism is in some ways the most important part.
